Tuna sandwich most usually consists of two slices of bread with a combination of canned tuna and mayonnaise in between. The sandwich may be enriched by the addition of ingredients such as chopped celery, black olives, cucumbers, pickles, onions, or hard-boiled eggs.
In the United States of America, it is especially beloved by children of all ages. Tuna sandwich has two basic variations: one is served on toasted bread with tomato slices and melted cheese, when it's called
tuna melt, and the other one is called
tuna boat, when tuna sandwich is served in a bread roll or a hot dog bun.
