Beggar's Purse

Recommended by Samantha Falewée and 4 other food critics.
"At first glance, it's a simple appetizer. The savory puff pastry is set in a pool of warm thyme beurre blanc, with the dough drawn up at the top to resemble a drawstring bag. Diners seem to hesitate before breaking into the purse with a fork and knife, but then the taste of green apple, yellow onion, roasted walnuts and a hint of gorgonzola spill through, steaming hot and filling the palate with a rich, rustic medley of flavors. There's a strong temptation to pluck the purse from its elegant presentation and eat it like an apple."

"Don’t miss: The menu is seasonal, but if you see the delicate Apple Beggar’s Purse, which is a puff pastry stuffed with savory sautéed apples, onions, Gorgonzola, and walnuts, order it."
"Appetizers like the Beggar's Purse - savory puff pastry filled with diced apples, yellow onion, toasted walnuts and crumbled gorgonzola, in a pool of warm thyme beurre blanc - make us all warm and cozy inside."
"At The Fig Tree, thyme butter sauce is a warming addition to this puff pastry-wrapped appetizer, while apples, onions, walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese make a harmony of fall flavors in the filling. Enjoy it!"
