Salty Dog

Salty Dog is an American cocktail made with a combination of vodka and grapefruit juice. The ingredients are typically shaken in a cocktail shaker, then strained into a salt-rimmed highball glass. In some varieties, vodka may be replaced with gin or tequila.

The cocktail is essentially a variation on the Greyhound, but Salty Dog has the addition of a salted rim, used to reduce the bitterness of the grapefruit juice. It is believed that the drink was invented in the 1950s by a mixologist named George Jessel.
