Red Bull is the best-selling energy drink in the world. The ingredients include caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, water, and sugar, though the exact formula largely depends on the market. It was created in 1987 by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian entrepreneur inspired by a similar Thai drink named Krating Daeng.
Mateschitz first tried Krating in 1982 and later worked with the inventor Chaleo Yoovidhya to produce a similar drink suitable for Western palates. Although similar, the two drinks differ in ingredients, and Red Bull has more caffeine than its Thai counterpart.
The brand image was created by promoting various extreme sports events. The idea was in line with the company’s motto—Red Bull gives you wings. Apart from the standard version, the company also has several special editions that include sugar-free versions and different fruit flavors.
