Pretuziano delle Colline Teramane olive oil was named after the Italic tribe of Praetuzi who lived in the area of the present-day province of Teramo, circa 300 BCE. Pretuziano extra virgin olive oil is obtained predominantly from the indigenous olive varieties of Leccino, Frantoio and Drita, the content of which must be at least 75% while for the remaining 25% other local varieties such as Tortiglione and Carboncella can be used. The color of Pretuziano oil is light green with a fruity smell and a medium spicy taste. It has a very low acidity level of only 0.5g per 100g of oil and a pronounced bitter aftertaste. Pretuziano delle Colline Teramane is typically used for seasoning vegetable dishes, grilled fish, salads or crispy bruschettas.
