Recommended by Larry Olmsted and 2 other food critics.
"Everything was tasty, but I especially liked the garlicky roasted pork, a mix of chunks and slices, with both crunchy exterior and juicy interior meat, done simply but fresh and flavorful."

Bebo's Café

San JuanPuerto Rico
1600 Calle Loíza
Recommended by Royal Caribbean International and 1 other food critic.
"Puerto Rico is famous for its pernil, a roasted pork shoulder with crispy skin spiced with garlic and adobo, typically served over rice and beans with a side of sweet plantains. The mountain town of Cayey is known for having perfected pernil, but you don't have to leave San Juan for a taste — just head to Bebo's Cafe."

"Authentic Puerto Rican cuisine is delicious and inexpensive, and you can find a selection of island meal staples at the very casual, friendly, and excellent Orozco’s on Ashford Avenue. Tender roast pork, or pernil, is island specialty. A side of rice and beans or rice with pigeon peas (arroz con gondules) rounds out any meal."

"Antunes is all about the pernil assado – a giant hunk of smoky roast pig so tender you can shred it with your fork. This place doesn’t skimp on portion sizes, so come tummy-grumblin'."

Molini's

"The real stand-out for me was Molini’s. They had excellent pernil that was exceedingly tender and spiced perfectly."

Recommended by Rough Guides and 1 other food critic.
"Travelling gastronome Anthony Bourdain said the best food he ate in Chile was at El Hoyo, and the hearty, pork-focused dishes don't disappoint. Specialities include pernil (pork leg)."

"Havana Central is part of chain of Manhattan restaurants that serve up Cuban cuisine drawn from family recipes that have been preserved over generations. The best dishes are those that stay close to traditional Cuban cooking - think Pernil, tender pieces of roasted pork laden with garlic."

"La Bombonera is one of the oldest bakeries in Puerto Rico. They have great typical Puerto Rican lunch food like Pernil (roast pork)."
