Patas de veado

This traditional Portuguese dessert consists of a Swiss roll that is filled with egg custard. The roll is then sliced diagonally, and the pieces are coated in custard and desiccated coconut, while the middle is decorated with a thin line of ground cinnamon.

The name patas de veado translates as deer hooves since the final appearance of these rolls resembles animal trotters. Unlike similar custard-based desserts found in Portugal, it is not known where patas de veado originally appeared.
