Recommendations

"I liked the mushy peas, which were made with marrowfat peas, as they should be."
"The top six fish & chip shops in the UK: Magpie Cafe - Arguably the most famous fish & chip shop in the country. Not least for the hideous wait that has to be endured before you snaffle one of the coveted tables. Once you do, however, the fish & chips are definitely worth it and the old school table service reminds you of childhood seaside holidays. Oh, they also make some of the best mushy peas I have ever tasted."
"What's hilarious about this is that generally you only come to the Magpie for one dish, and that's fish and chips, and marvellous they are, too."
"Nine of the best UK fish and chip shops: Magpie Cafe - To be considered the best fish and chip shop in Whitby is no mean feat, given the sheer number of excellent options in the Yorkshire seaside town. It’s hard to find fault with The Magpie, and, while the fish and chips are naturally first rate, they’re actually a small part of an extensive menu that ranges from oysters and kippers to local lobster thermidor and a build-your-own fish platter. It’s well worth the queue."
"Mushy peas were really good, a bit saucy which is just how I like them. It all went well together, just as it should."
"Mushy peas were as they should be – savoury mushed marrowfats with only a slight sweetness."
"Anyone that visits Whitby has to try The Magpie’s famous fish and chips."
"Every mouthful of fish was a joy – the perfectly flaky fillet enrobed by thin, crisp, grease-free and perfectly puffed up batter. Chips were also things of beauty - chunky, crisp, fluffy and ever so slightly meaty (that'll be the beef dripping they're fried in). They were a delight to dunk in a pot of tartare sauce and a gravy boat of sweet & spicy curry sauce."
"Situated in the centre of Whitby the Magpie Cafe – in my opinion – produces the freshest and best fish and chips you will find anywhere in the UK."
"I’m not saying that you should travel north just for the fish and chips but if you’re in the area, it’s definitely a slice of Yorkshire that you shouldn’t miss."

"SUPERB Fish and Chips, cooked properly and served with proper condiments. Not tarted up with stupid crap. Salt, Vinegar and Mushy Peas."
