Lazakiyat is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is particularly popular in Syria. It is made from a dough consisting of flour, sugar, milk, and yeast, usually seasoned with turmeric, anise, and cardamom, which is traditionally baked on a metal griddle saj.
After cooking, the flatbreads are typically brushed with ghee and honey or sugar, giving it a sweet and rich flavor. Also, to make it richer, the flatbreads are also often spread with a mixture of milk and halva. Sometimes, when assembled, lazakiyat is topped with pistachios or other nuts for added texture.
