Kühling-Gillot and Battenfeld-Spanier are two renowned wineries located in the Rheinhessen region of Germany, celebrated for their focus on terroir-driven wines. Led by Carolin Spanier-Gillot and H. O. Spanier, the wineries share a philosophy centered on expressing the unique characteristics of their vineyards, including the Rheinterrasse, Zellertal, and Wonnegau.

Kühling-Gillot specializes in wines from slate soils along the iconic "Roten Hang" (Red Slope), particularly Riesling and Pinot Noir, allowing the mineral-rich terroir to shine through. Their wines are often aged for two to three years before release, achieving remarkable balance and complexity.

Battenfeld-Spanier, founded by H. O. Spanier in 1991, is based in the southern Rheinhessen and focuses on biodynamic farming. The winery produces exceptional Rieslings and Pinot Noirs that highlight the chalky soils' minerality and salinity. Their winemaking approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard's natural expression to take center stage.
