Kringle III

Step 1/7

Using a fork, mix flour, butter, and salt in a large bowl, then pour in as much cold water as necessary to make a soft dough.

Step 2/7

Roll the dough out, then shape it into a thick strand. Shape the strand into a pretzel, then flatten the pretzel, so it's 3 inches wide.

Step 3/7

Heat butter and water in a saucepan, but do not let it boil. Then, while constantly stirring, add the flour and the salt. Do not stop stirring all the while the topping is cooking. Remove the saucepan from the stove, once a large lump that is coming away from the sides has formed.

Step 4/7

Wait until the topping cools but it still warm.

Step 5/7

While whisking constantly, first add the eggs one by one, and then the almond extract.

Step 6/7

Spread the filling over the pastry, then bake in a 177°C oven for 55-65 minutes until golden.

Step 7/7

Mix the ingredients for the frosting until smooth, then spread it over the baked kringle.
