Huhu Beetle

Huhu is the biggest endemic longhorn beetle in New Zealand. Their larvae are known as huhu grubs, hatching from eggs that were deposited either in rotten wood or under the bark. During the huhu beetle season, from November to March, the Maori consume these grubs fried, roasted, or raw, although they can also be used as fishing bait.
