"I opened the Styrofoam box, and a vapor composed of the essence of tempura-like batter, thick chips cut from Maris Piper potatoes, mushy peas, and vaporized malt vinegar seemed to fill my pores. The light breading broke apart under a little pressure from a plastic fork, revealing a slender fillet of flaky white meat. The haddock was absolutely perfect: sweet and salty and light and filling all at the same time. It just went to show that fish and chips, done well, can be the best of meals."
