Erdäpfelnidei | Traditional Dumplings From Austria, Central Europe | TasteAtlas

Erdäpfelnidei

Erdäpfelnidei are traditional Austrian potato dumplings, similar to the Italian gnocchi. The dumplings are made with a combination of potatoes, eggs, flour, salt, and nutmeg. The starchy potatoes are boiled until nearly falling apart, and they're then mashed with the other ingredients and shaped into small dumplings that are thrown into hot oil and fried until golden brown.

Once done, erdäpfelnidei are usually served with sauerkraut and fried bacon bits as a filling dish that's typically eaten on Friday.
