(Bonarda, Bonarda di Rovescala, Crovattina, Crovettina, Crovattino, Nebbiolo di Gattinara, Neretto, Spanna di Ghemme, Spanna-Nebbiolo, Uga del Zio, Uva Vermiglia)

Croatina is a red grape variety native to northern Italy. It is used for varietals and blends, and it is included in several regional appellations – most notable is the Oltrepò Pavese Bonarda DOC, which is 100% Croatina. The grape is mostly found in Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, and Lombardy.

Croatina produces fruity wines that are best enjoyed young, though there are some age-worthy examples. The wines are soft and slightly tannic, often with bright, fruity flavors reminiscent of berries and plums. Croatina is often used in blends to provide freshness, color, acidity, and fruitiness.

Some of the common blending partners include Nebbiolo or Barbera. Varietal Croatina is an excellent everyday wine. It pairs well with pasta dishes and meat sauces, but it can also work well with charcuterie and cheese.
