This fast food fare is made with seasoned chicken slurry made from deboned meat and skin which is shaped as nuggets that can then be dipped either in a mixture of flour and various seasonings, breadcrumbs, or batter. They are traditionally fried, but homemade ones can also be baked. Initially, at McDonald’s chicken nuggets came with three dipping sauces from which you could choose — barbecue, sweet-sour and hot mustard — but the repertoire has since expanded to include many more. Today, the dish is served by the majority of fast food joints and is typically paired with a sauce for dipping and French fries.

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp granulated garlic
salt and pepper
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 ½-inch pieces
1 cup prepared breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 cup vegetable oil
Combine flour with garlic, a teaspoon of salt, and a quarter teaspoon of pepper, then transfer the mixture into a plastic bag. Next, add the chicken meat to the bag, and toss coat. Because of the amount of meat, you will need to coat it in batches, as they don’t all fit into the plastic bag.
Season the breadcrumbs with salt and pepper, then transfer them to a plate. In a bowl whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water. Take a piece of chicken from the bag with flour and dip it first into the egg, and then into breadcrumbs. Repeat this until all the chicken pieces are coated.
In a large pan heat the oil over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken nuggets in batches, each one until browned on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer the fried nuggets onto a paper towel-lined plate. Before serving, season to taste with more salt.
