The following is a typical recipe for grilled cheese dogs. For the most part, this is a classic preparation with all the typical, traditional ingredients, except that the butter is seasoned with onion and garlic powder.

4 hot dog buns

2 tbsp butter, softened

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp onion powder

4 hot dogs, sliced lengthwise

3 cups shredded Cheddar

sliced green onions, for garnish

Step 1/5

Blend butter, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl. Using a rolling pin, flatten the hot dog buns, then spread the bottom sides of the buns with butter.

Sear hot dogs in a large skillet over medium heat until charred, about 2 minutes per side, then transfer to a plate.

Next, lay the hamburger bun buttered side down in the skillet, then top it with half a cup of cheddar. Place a hot dog on top, and cover with some more cheddar cheese and green onion slices.

Cover with a lid, and wait until the cheese melts, then close the bun with a spatula.

Do the same with the other three hamburger buns and dogs.
