Cooking tips

  • meat

For the best results use only freshly ground beef that has approximately 20% of fat, such as beef chuck.
  • technique

To achieve a perfectly shaped burger that is flat and appropriately sized once cooked, form your burgers somewhat wider than your buns and make a shallow dent on top of each one. Don’t overwork the meat and season the patties only once you’re ready to cook them. The cheese is placed on the burger while it is still cooking, so it has time to melt. Once the bottom of the burger is cooked, flip it and ... Read more
  • smashed burger

The beauty of a smashed burger is that as it cooks, it will develop a massive crust. However, to compensate for the lack of moistness, a slice of cheese is placed between two burger patties, technically turning a smashed burger into a cheeseburger.
  • toppings & condiments

Add sliced pickles, onions, tomatoes, or lettuce to your cheeseburger, and use condiments like ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
  • burger buns

Typically, a burger bun will be sprinkled with sesame seeds. You can purchase burger buns in every store, or prepare your own. Remember to always toast the buns before you start assembling the cheeseburger, as that way they will not turn soggy.
  • serving

Serve with a side of either French fries, onion rings or potato chips. Enjoy it with a beer or your favorite soft drink.

The following is the recipe for the classic cheeseburger. The patties are made with ground chuck and onion powder, seasoned only with pepper and salt. Once the patties have cooked on one side, flip them and top with two slices of American cheese. Place each patty inside a hamburger bun and add lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, pickles, and ketchup.

Ingredients

6 Servings

1.2 kg of freshly ground chuck

1 tbsp of onion powder

1 tsp salt

1 tsp freshly ground black pepper

12 slices of American cheese

6 large burger buns, preferably homemade

GARNISH

lettuce

onions, sliced

Preparation

Step 1/4

In a large bowl gently mix ground beef and onion powder, then shape into six patties that are slightly larger than your hamburger buns and have a dent in the center.

Step 2/4

Heat your grill, grill pan, or a cast iron skillet over high heat, season the patties liberally with salt and pepper, then place them on the grill to cook.

Step 3/4

Cook for about two minutes until the crust on the bottom has formed. Flip the burgers once you can lift them up easily then add two cheese slices to each. Cook for another two to three minutes.

Step 4/4

Remove from the grill and transfer into buns, add the desired garnishings and condiments like lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and ketchup, then serve.
