2021

Montecillo Gran Reserva Selección Especial 2005 is a limited edition wine commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Bodegas Montecillo, with only 2,789 bottles produced. This exceptional wine is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano, and 10% Maturana, sourced from a vineyard over 60 years old in Rioja Alta.

The vineyard features calcareous-clay soil with numerous pebbles and a south-facing slope, providing optimal conditions for grape cultivation. On the nose, it exhibits complex and intense aromas, including spiced oak, licorice root, black pepper, tobacco, and very ripe black fruit, with a subtle hint of wood-fire roasted bell pepper.

The palate is enveloped by a glycerin texture that is both creamy and powerful, leading to a harmonious, silky sensation. The finish is exceptionally long, highlighting the unique flavors and aromas that distinguish this special wine.

About Bodegas Montecillo

Bodegas Montecillo, founded in 1870, is the third-oldest winery in the Rioja region and the oldest in Fuenmayor. For over 150 years, the winery has remained dedicated to producing authentic Rioja wines, blending traditional methods with modern innovations.

The founder, Don Celestino Navajas Matute, came from a family deeply rooted in Fuenmayor and established the winery after inheriting vineyards from his father-in-law. Today, under the guidance of oenologist Mercedes García, Bodegas Montecillo upholds the founder's philosophy, producing elegant, classic, and timeless wines that reflect the authenticity of the Rioja region.

The winery is renowned for its Reserva and Gran Reserva red wines, which have garnered numerous awards and accolades at prestigious national and international competitions.
