The stout or drought is poured into a pint over the back of a spoon, slowly, so that the two beers remain separate. A special black and tan spoon has been created to use for this purpose. The handle has a bend in the middle for the purpose of easier balancing when placed on the rim of the pint glass. However, a regular spoon is equally good to use as well.
