African eggplant

(Surinamese eggplant, Vietnamese eggplant, Igba, Añara, Antroewa, Antruwa, Cà pháo, Garden egg, Gboma, Njama njama, Entula, Sokoyokoto, Ndengue)

African eggplant (lat. Solanum macrocarpon) originated in Africa, specifically in the regions of West Africa and Central Africa. It has been cultivated for centuries and is considered indigenous to these parts of the continent. The plant was domesticated from wild relatives found in Africa and has since become an important food crop in many African countries.

Over time, different varieties of African eggplant have been developed, each adapted to specific regional climates and culinary preferences. Today, it is widely grown and consumed across sub-Saharan Africa and has become a staple in local cuisines, valued for its versatility, nutritional benefits, and cultural significance.
